Open Street Map

From URISA Board Member, Carl Anderson...

As some of you are aware, OpenStreetMap is having its US State of the Map (SOTM-US) conference in Atlanta this Aug 14-15 (a weekend).  At $35 the event is fairly inexpensive and will be filled with passionate mappers from across the US.  Unfortunately there is not much advance notice, but I see that airfare that weekend is fairly cheap.

Competency Model Released

GISCI Thinking about Changes?

Got a press release from Sheila Wilson at GISCI this afternoon. Seems that GISCI is considering making changes.

Will definitely keep my ears open for more news!

Fifth Caribbean GIS Conference

Really pleased that URISA's Fifth Caribbean GIS Conference has been announced and planning has begun! The conference will be in Trinidad, December 6-10, 2010. The conference committee, led by Jacob Opadeyi at the University of the West Indies, is already discussing sessions and hot topics. The Call for Presentations will be announced very shortly. Start thinking of what you'd like to present and make plans to be in Trinidad this December!

GISCorps Launches 60th Mission

What a success story! GISCorps has been involved with SIXTY missions since its inception. All involved should be really proud about 'Giving Back' in this way.

Addressing

Interest is high for the Addressing Conference this year. Perhaps its the location (Charlotte, NC) or the new Address Standard under review? Maybe a combination of both. Either way, check out the program when you have some time and see you in Charlotte? ... http://www.urisa.org/addressing/2010charlotte

Terry to Lead COGO

Well-deserved recognition for Geney Terry as she was selected by the Coalition of Geospatial Organizations (COGO) to serve as Chair in 2011.

Geney has served on the URISA Board. She is currently the Program Chair for GIS-Pro 2010 and has served on numerous URISA committees over the years. She is very involved (one of the founding members) of URISA's Northern California Chapter.

Geney is also very active within the GIS Certification Institute. Congratulations Geney!!

GIS/CAMA & A Tornado

Just back from the 14th Annual GIS/CAMA Technologies Conference, IAAO and URISA's partnered event. It's always a good conference, but this year the attendees thought the educational content was better than ever. So congratulations to the program committee and thank you to all of the speakers who shared their knowledge!

The GIS Professional

So pleased to introduce an improved URISA publication, THE GIS PROFESSIONAL!

This replaces URISA News, which has been a mainstay of URISA for decades. Hopefully, the publication will prove to be a valuable benefit of membership while offering members ample opportunity to contribute articles and content, a great way to earn GISCI Contributions to the Profession points...

Summit

The latest issue of THE SUMMIT, the comprehensive newsletter from the Washington State Chapter of URISA, has just been posted. Take some time to learn about the chapter and their many activities: http://www.waurisa.org/thesummit/
