Host a URISA Certified Workshop

Sponsor A Workshop In Your Area

How to Host a URISA Certified Workshop

Each year, URISA invests considerable resources in the development and production of URISA Certified Workshops. The workshops span a wide variety of geospatial topics and have been regularly evaluated and improved during URISA-sponsored events.

Provide your members/employees/users this important professional development opportunity by hosting a URISA Workshop in your area.

Why Use URISA Workshops?

There is no need to develop your own content or purchase expensive training programs. Bring quality VENDOR-NEUTRAL education to your doorstep with proven instructors, professional materials and URISA support. Not only will you save time and money (no extensive travel or time away from the office required), but you can also generate revenue for your organization through registration fees.

Who Instructs URISA Workshops?

Certified Workshop Instructors are URISA members (government employees, academicians, consultants, etc.) who meet experience criteria and performance standards for a given workshop topic. These individuals are considered experts in their field and have been evaluated positively by workshop attendees. Note that it may be possible to identify a local URISA member to co-instruct a workshop, thus allowing that person to become a Certified Workshop Instructor.

There are two ways to host a URISA Certified Workshop:

Option 1: License and run your own URISA Certified Workshop

Option 2: Host a URISA Professional Development Program in your Area

Option 1: License and Present your own URISA Certified Workshop

Many jurisdictions have organized URISA Workshops for their GIS Staff … one-day educational programs without the time away from the office or the expense of traveling. The Workshop comes to you! Choose your own facilities, timing, and location.

Many chapters and local GIS communities present URISA Workshops as stand-alone educational events or hold a workshop in conjunction with a conference that is already scheduled. Sponsor a URISA Certified Workshop before or after your conference and your attendees will be sure to take advantage of this bonus educational experience. Charge a registration fee and generate revenue for your program.

In either case, URISA will provide the workbook materials and instructor listing. You contact qualified instructors, pay agreed-upon expenses and keep any net revenues if a fee is charged to attend.

Five Easy Steps:

  • Select the appropriate workshop(s) for your group

  • Contact URISA Headquarters (847-824-6300, info@urisa.org ) for the list of certified instructors for that workshop. URISA will provide you with a list of certified instructors along with guidelines for honoraria and travel stipends.

  • Contact a URISA certified instructor to determine availability and arrange a workshop date.

  • Complete the URISA Workshop Licensing Agreement and send payment to URISA International.  (URISA Chapter = $500 per workshop; Other Organizations = $1,000 per workshop)  Note that significant discounts can be realized for hosting a series of workshops.

  • URISA will send the workbook master, certificates, and evaluation form, and advertise your workshop on its training calendar.

Option 2: Host a URISA Professional Development Program in your Area

If you don’t have the volunteers or staff to help run your event, URISA Headquarters can do it for you.

URISA will handle the logistics – facilities, audio-visual equipment, food & beverage, etc. We’ll identify and organize for the instructors and provide workbooks and name badges for attendees. We’ll handle the financial details, set fees, process registration and collect payments.

URISA will take care of everything and provide an informative and lively workshop, as part of URISA's Professional Development Program. URISA assumes all financial risks and you provide high quality education locally.

With Option 2 there are no fees to the sponsoring organization. Minimum attendance guarantee is required.

HOW IT WORKS

The sponsoring group representative contacts URISA Headquarters three months to one year prior to the proposed course to discuss the following:

  • Format
  • Topics
  • Instructors
  • Financial arrangements
  • Dates
  • Production of workbook and other materials
  • Letter of agreement

In order to achieve educational excellence, special attention is paid to every component of the course. You will be provided materials and instructions detailing every aspect of the event to ensure that participants have the HIGHEST quality educational experience possible.

LICENSING FEES

Option 1:

URISA Chapter - $500 per workshop

All other organizations - $1,000 per workshop

Note that significant discounts are available if your organization purchases a series of licenses.

Download the URISA certified workshop licensing form below. Choose the link that applies to your organization.

Option 2:

No fees to sponsoring organization. URISA sets and collects fees from attendees. Minimum attendance guarantee required.

Call URISA at (847)824-6300 TODAY to discuss your workshop needs. Special requests can be accommodated and workshops tailored to local interests, as well as the inclusion of a local instructor. A list of instructors and detailed course descriptions are available upon request.

Do you have any additional ideas for a workshop? Call URISA today and let's discuss it. Scheduling of workshops is done on a first-come, first-served basis.

Locally delivered professional education to benefit your members or employees and your organization!
